Seychelles is an archipelago of many islands located just off the eastern coast of Africa, and it is a popular destination for a romantic getaway. We ended up choosing the Seychelles because we managed to find cheap flight tickets (~£450) on Qatar Airways (6 hours to Doha, another 4 to Seychelles) and wanted to visit somewhere outside of Europe for the week... but little did we know how expensive everything else was going to be - so beware! That being said, it was definitely worth burning a hole in our pockets for - with unreal beaches, rich wildlife, beautiful resorts and quintessential island vibes, Seychelles is truly a jewel of the Indian Ocean.
We stayed 3 nights in Praslin and 4 in La Digue, choosing not to spend time in Mahe given we only had a week - no regrets because I hear the beaches on Praslin/La Digue are better, and there's equally enough to explore on the smaller islands. We took the Cat Cocos Ferry from Mahe (be sure to book in advance and also bring some Kwells if you get seasick easily) which took about 1hr 15 mins.
Day 1
Visit:
Anse Georgette** (can only be accessed via Constance Lemuria)
Stay:
Constance Lemuria * (spenny but treat yourself for a night or two!)
Day 2
Visit:
Anse Lazio* - We rented a car for the day for 50 euros to drive to Anse Lazio but apparently you can hike there from Anse Georgette. It was late in the afternoon so the tide was high and the waves were very big. I read that in the June-Sept months, due to the South-East trade winds, the waves at some beaches can get pretty rough / the water isn't the clearest or safest to swim in. There might also be seaweed washed ashore on some beaches so they don't look as pristine as in the winter months - just FYI!
Vallee De Mai Nature Park - I'm sorry to say, despite this being a UNESCO World Heritage Site (as the rare coco de mer palm grows here), it was just a normal walk through some trees... not worth the £25 (each) entry tickets... and definitely do not pay for a guide unless you are really into flora and fauna.
Day 3
Visit:
Curieuse Island & St Pierre Glass Bottom Boat & Snorkeling Trip (booked on Get Your Guide) ** - Such an awesome day trip! Curieuse Island is a definite must do as you'll get to hang out with the very special Aldabra giant tortoises :)
Stay:
Anse Kerlan Beach Chalets * (book directly with them. Pascal & Taciana are the BEST hosts!)
Day 4
Visit:
What we loved about La Digue is that the island is so small you can cycle anywhere. Bikes can be rented for 100-150 (£5-£8) Seychelle Rupees a day. We cycled North from our hotel past Anse Severe, Anse Patates and to Anse Fourmis (which is the end of the road).
Stay:
Le Domaine de L'Orangeraie Resort & Spa - the only 'luxury' resort on La Digue but very overpriced for what it is, although the poolside is beautiful
Eat:
Chez Jules*
